I am here with my first blog about creating FTP user through the terminal or you can say that through ssh on the server. Setting up a fully-functional and highly secured FTP server on the Ubuntu is made very easy with a handful of key components and a couple of minutes of your time. Please follow the below steps:

Step 1: For FTP access we need to install the vsftpd package if you have installed that before then you can skip this step:

Step 2: The next step is to change configuration settings for vsftpd. For this open the /etc/vsftpd.conf file in your preferred text editor:

Step 3: In this file, you have to change the following settings :

listen=YES tells vsftpd to run as a standalone daemon (the simplest method for getting up and running). anonymous_enable=NO disallows anonymous FTP users, which is generally preferred for security reasons but can be enabled for testing purposes.

local_enable=YES allows any user account defined in the /etc/passwd file access to the FTP server and is generally how most FTP users will connect.

write_enable=YES is commented out by default, but removing the hash (#) allows files to be uploaded to the FTP server. chroot_local_user=YES restricts users to their home directory and is also commented out by default.

To begin your testing and make sure everything is working, start with the following settings for the above parameters:

Now you can add a user by the below command:

Give the permissions to the user you have created by below command:

Assign the directory to the user

Restart the service vsftpd with below command

User has been created now, you can open the FileZilla and connect the user.

Now you can check the user has been connected to the folder you have assigned.

You can give permissions to the folders for the new user using the command

If the account is on a shared IP, which means it’s shared between multiple domains, you must use the full FTP account username – such as test@my-site.com – and password to log in to FTP.

3. Re-enter your password in the Password (Again) field to confirm it.
4. Enter the account’s home directory into the Directory field. Here’s where you determine the user’s level of access. For example, public_html as the home directory means the user can access any directory and file inside the public_html folder. However, the user won’t be able to access folders outside the public_html directory.

1. Set a Quota for the FTP account, or select Unlimited. This determines the maximum amount of bandwidth an FTP user can use.
2. Click Create FTP Account.

Scroll down to see your new account listed under the FTP Accounts section.

From this section, you can also change the password, change the quota, configure FTP clients, or delete the account if you no longer need it.

Perform these steps to configure an FTP client:

1. Install CoreFTP or Cyberduck on your computer. Please note that cPanel only supports auto-configuration for these FTP clients. If you would like to use another client, you will need to configure the client manually.
2. On your cPanel -> FTP Accounts section, click Configure FTP Client for the desired FTP account.

Создание FTP-пользователя
