The VMRC console has disconnected…attempting to reconnect
This morning I received an error I haven’t seen before when trying to open the console of a VM in our ESXi 5.5 environment…. “The VMRC console has disconnected…attempting to reconnect.”
There are two ways to fix this. The easy way is to reboot your computer �� If you would want to avoid a reboot you can do the following:
The VMRC console has been disconnected.
After a forced closing of vSphere client due to it got stuck, trying to access to VMs shows the following error on the top of the consoles:
The VMRC console has disconnected…attempting to reconnect.
Solution:
After googling and reading KBs without success, I found out that the solution was easier than I tough, just reboot the PC/Server running the vSphere Client, that’s all, after doing so you will be able to keep working on your VMs through the console.
ESXi 6 – The VMRC Console Has Disconnected
So a few days back i was experience an issue where i couldn’t connect to a VMware vSphere ESXi 6.0 Patch 4 (build number 4600944) based Virtual Machine Remote Console (VMRC) at a customer. I have seen this quite a few times over the years and there are a lot of VMware KB articles available on the topic.
I did some research and tried the resolution suggested in e.g.:
Name resolution from the client to the ESXi host was in place, both A and PTR records. I even added the IP, name and FQDN to the clients hosts file but that didn’t help.
I also verified that the communication on the required port for VMRC, 902, was not blocked on the local client where i was running vSphere Client or in a potential firewalls between the ESXi host and the client. The error i was getting was “The VMRC console has disconnected….attempting to reconnect”
So this is what i did to be able to use my vSphere Client.
- Uninstall the vSphere client form the client
- Remove the following directories on the client:
- C:\Program Files (x86)\VMware\Infrastructure\Virtual Infrastructure Client
- C:\ProgramData\VMware\VMware Remote Console\
- C:\Users\<uerid>\AppData\Local\VMware\vpx
When done i could connect to VMs using vSphere Client. Bas on the below screen shot there was not an option to use the vSphere Web Client since it was the vCenter Server itself i had to connect to.
The problem, not being able to connect to the VMRC applied to any VM and not just the vCenter Server. Maybe one of the reasons for the problem was that multiple versions of the vSphere Client has been running on the client/PC over the years but i’m not sure.

Обновившись с VMware vSphere 5.0 на VMware vSphere 5.5 я получил неработающий vSphere Data Recovery, на замену которому пришел vSphere Data Protection. И все бы ничего, но неожиданно возник ворох разнообразных граблей с запуском этого сервера резервного копирования.
1. Установочный OVA-файл не видит виртуального свитча dvSwitch и ставится только на VMNetwork, то есть vmnetwork у вас не должен быть удален. Ну и после установки надо не забыть поменять привязку на ethertnet-адаптере.
2. Не возможно подключиться к консоли сервера, vSphere Client выдает ошибку «The VMRC console has disconnected. attempting to reconnect.» Долго соображал как же подключиться к консоли, пока не обнаружил что тот же Vmware Fusion вполне себе хорошо работает с серверами vSphere и, в отличии от vSphere Client, консоль отображает без проблем.
3. Обязательно надо прописать DNS-имя на сервере DNS и в настройке сервера. Иначе все будет тупить и не работать.
4. После всего этого вебинтерфейс начал отзываться, но работать отказывался. Нашел статейку на vmware что разработчики всех популярных браузеров, среди которых Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome и Internet Explorer в целях безопасности удалили поддержку криптографического алгоритма DSA, который использовался в веб сервере всех версий VDP до 6.0.x включительно. Исправлено начиная с версии 6.0.1 сменой алгоритма DSA на RSA.
Для смены типа алгоритма без обновления VDP vmware предлагает скачать и запустить скрипт исправления 2111900_VDPHotfix.SHA2.sh.zipСкрипт делает следующее:
Выполнить команды можно в локали машины, зайдя на неё с логином/паролем «root/changeme».
